How to Care for Curly Wigs

2023.03.14

Gently Detangle

Gently detangle using a wide tooth comb and detangling spray. Avoid brushes because they will make your curls frizz, shed and lose their shape.

Restore Your Curls

Restore your curls by taking sections of hair and twist each one in the direction of its original curl pattern. Take smaller or larger sections depending on the size of curl you want; tight ringlets or looser curls. Try twisting in different directions if you aren’t sure of the original curl pattern and they will bounce back into shape in one direction or another.

Use Special Care Products

Use care products formulated for your wig. This ensures the proper balance between cleansing and conditioning so that the hair gets all the moisture it needs to stay frizz-free. Synthetic fibers will have their own set of synthetic care products separate from human hair care products.

Wash Your Wig Properly

Wash your wig in lukewarm water and avoid soaking. Never use hot water as this can alter the curls or cause damage. Use a showerhead or sink hose to wet and rinse your wig so that the water is flowing through the hair from roots to the ends. Soaking your wig can cause tangling and knotting, especially on longer styles.

Store Your Wig

Store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin and cover it with a hair net. Tucking the curls into the netting will safely hold them up. This is especially important after you wash your wig, and after you’ve let it mostly dry flat on a towel, because the weight of the wet hair can cause the curls to stretch out.
